Pprime Institute (P’) is a research unit affiliated to CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) created in 2010, in collaboration with ISAE-ENSMA (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et d’Aérotechnique) and the University of Poitiers. It is composed of more than 600 people whose research areas relate to Engineering Sciences and Materials Physics. The Institute is divided into three departments: Physics and Mechanics of Materials; Fluids, Thermal and Combustion, Mechanical Engineering and Complex Systems.

The issues are broached via experimentation, numerical simulation and theoretical modelling. Pprime Unit has important instruments, at a global level, composed of intermediate size equipments with conventional tools of laboratories and those of French major research centers (ONERA, CEA), Europeans or industrials. Scientific computing is supported on the MésoCentre de Calcul of Poitou-Charentes, and on national equipments.

In addition to strong research works as part of important national and international programs, the laboratory owns a strong activity in partnership with major industrial groups, particularly in sectors of aeronautical and terrestrial transportation, spatial and energy.

It is based on LABEX INTERACTIFS prospects investments (Interactions of Interfaces between Fluids and Solids), EQUIPEX GAP (Groupe Aéro Propulseur) and ROBOTEX (Equipex on national network).

Located on the Futuroscope, Prométée technology platform groups together experimental means in physics and engineering. Test beds cover Pprime Institute’s research fields such as aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, hydrodynamics, combustion, ignition technology/detonics, thermic, tribology and materials. Testing procedures are based on a compressed air network (200 bar) which is unique in academic institutions in Europe and provides the energy required for its operation.

Résumé des travaux

Ce travail a consisté à étudier l’écoulement généré par les bras des nageurs experts à différentes allures de nage, par des mesures cinématiques et numériques.

Deux des principaux axes d’investigation étaient de vérifier si les paramètres cinématiques (vitesse, accélération, orientation) variaient en fonction de l’allure, et aussi de déterminer quels paramètres cinématiques sont les plus prépondérants dans la génération des mécanismes propulsifs.

Le rayonnement des trous noirs prédit par Stephen Hawking a été observé pour la première fois dans un canal hydrodynamique de l’institut Pprime* grâce à des vagues se propageant à la surface d’un contre-courant d’eau, analogue à ces objets astrophysique.
